Candidate guide

How to set up your free profile, present your energy experience well and stay in control of who sees your details.

Create a free profileSearch jobs

Create your free profile

Start on the candidate registration page. Everything for candidates is free: your profile, CV upload, applying for jobs, saving jobs and your application history.

Your profile records your job title, skills, location, the sectors you are interested in, qualifications, experience, availability and whether you want permanent, contract or temporary work. You can upload your CV as a PDF or Word document. The more complete your profile, the easier it is for the right employers to find you, if you choose to be visible.

CV tips for the energy sector

Lead with your certificates

Energy employers often screen on safety and technical tickets first. Put a short certificates section near the top, with expiry dates. Depending on your field this might include GWO Basic Safety Training, OPITO offshore survival training, an offshore medical, CompEx, IPAF, an ECITB CCNSG safety passport or HV authorisations. Out-of-date tickets are worth listing too, marked as expired.

Be specific about plant, equipment and systems

"Maintained turbines" says less than naming the turbine platforms, voltage levels or control systems you worked on. Mention the types of site, such as offshore platforms, substations, nuclear licensed sites or domestic installations, without sharing anything confidential.

Show scope and responsibility

Give a sense of scale: the size of the team you led, the number of assets you looked after or the value of the projects you supported. Include permits, authorisations and safety roles you have held, because they show the trust employers placed in you.

Translate experience from other industries

If you are moving from the armed forces, manufacturing, construction or another industry, describe what you did in plain terms rather than internal job codes. Electrical, mechanical, marine and control skills transfer well into energy.

Keep it readable

Two pages is usually enough. Use clear headings, put your most recent role first and save the file with your name in it. Check spelling and dates carefully, and make sure the CV you upload matches the experience on your profile, because employers may look at both.

Privacy and visibility controls

Your profile is hidden by default. You choose whether verified employers can find you in candidate search, and you can switch visibility on or off at any time.

Even when you are visible, your contact details and CV are only shown to approved employers with database access. Every CV download is logged, and you can see which companies have accessed your CV. Our privacy policy explains how your data is handled.

Applying and tracking your applications

Use energy job search to filter by keyword, location, sector, salary, employment type and whether a role is on-site, hybrid or remote. When you apply, your application goes to the employer and is added to your application history, so you can see what you have applied for and when.

Expired and closed adverts stop accepting applications, so check the closing date and apply early for roles that interest you.

Saving jobs

If you find a role you want to think about, save it. Saved jobs stay in your account so you can compare them side by side, check details with family or your current rota, and come back to apply before the advert closes.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account and your data whenever you choose. If an employer has already downloaded your CV, they hold their own copy and are responsible for it under data protection law; you can contact them directly to ask them to delete it. The download log in your account shows you which companies to contact.
